The “Industrial Inspection ” group, based in Alpnach, Switzerland is looking for a Research Fellow in Artificial Data Generation for Industry

 

 Your mission

The Industrial Inspection group at CSEM (located at the CSEM Site in Alpnach) develops algorithms and systems based on advanced machine and deep learning in the areas of quality and process control, human centric AI and cognitive robotics. The range of tasks is extremely diverse and extends from research and prototyping to the development and commissioning of industrial plants. As a Research Fellow "Artificial Data Generation for Industry", your task will be to develop methods and pipelines that will improve or even enable machine & deep learning approaches for industrial applications where the amount of data is very low and/or have very high class imbalance with the help of generated data. The group already developed and deployed projects that used data generation pipelines for industrial part identification and robotic control applications. As a research fellow, you will work for two years exclusivly in research with a strong interconnection to the R&D team that give input to industry's needs and applications. Your main focus will be to find solutions and algorithms to deliver industry grade solutions by using as less real data as possible. The research fellow position is intended for two years, with the possibility of subsequently joining the R&D team.

 

Your responsabilities

  • Research in the field of artificial data generation with a focus on small industrial data sets for down stream tasks like:
  • One- and Few Shot learning
  • Un- and Semi supervised anomaly detection
  • Semantic hashing and clustering based defect detection
  • Development of tools data generation pipelines to support the R&D Engineers
  • Technology presentations at conferences & clients
  • Work closely with the R&D team to understand our customers' needs and ensure industry applicability of own research
  • Continuously keep aware of the state of the art

 

Your profile

Know-how

  • Holder of a PHd degree in DataScience, Computer Engineering or similar, with a deep understanding in the field of computer generated image data with and without AI (GAN, Stable Diffusion, NERF, Gaussian Splatting, Photogrammetry, Rendering & Computer Graphics). Alternativly a holder of a master degree in the mentioned fields with at least 4 Years of experiance in research in at least one of the mentioned fields.
  • Photorealistic Rendering and Simulation (e.g. Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, NVIDIA Omniverse, ...)
  • Physically Based Rendering Material
  • Understanding of 3D Representations (3D-Mesh, Voxels, Point Clouds)
  • State of the Art in Generative AI like GANs, Stable Diffusion, Transformer Based Models, Variational Autoencoders, Large Language Models
  • Design and Application of Custom Neural Networks
  • Basics in 3D Modelling (Solidworks, ....)
  • Strong Programming skills in python required, C++/C# is a plus
  • DeepLEarning Libraries PyTorch, ONNX

  • Good communication skills to present ideas, data and results.

  • Fluency in English required, German is a plus
