Internship Opportunity in Deep Learning for Life Science Engineering

Your mission

As an intern in the Automated Sample Handling group, you will support activities in the Life Science Technologies area with a focus on machine learning, robotics, and organoid sorting. We are seeking a highly motivated Master’s student or recent Master’s graduate with a strong background in computer vision and machine / deep learning. This unique internship offers the opportunity to lead the development of a deep learning classification algorithm integrated into a laboratory robot. The algorithm will be used to classify organoids, playing a crucial role in our research and development efforts.

In the future, we hope to spin out this organoid sorting technology as a startup called Visienco, at the forefront of innovation, combining cutting-edge technology with a passion for creating impactful solutions. The mission would be to revolutionize drug development by using organoids as an alternative to animal testing.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an intern to support us in:

• Implementation, testing, and biovalidation of prototype systems, specifically with regards to image acquisition and sample handling.
• Performing of validation experiments for prototype systems
• Developing and implementing a deep learning classification algorithm for organoids.
• Selecting the appropriate model and training strategy for optimal performance.

Your profile

Know-how

• Strong background in deep learning and computer vision
• Collaborate with experts at CSEM and contribute to the start-up’s growth.
• Strong English-speaking skills required, German and / or French-speaking skills a plus

Interpersonal skills

• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
