Internship / Master Thesis Opportunity in Deep Learning for Life Sciences

Your mission

As an intern in the AI for Life Sciences group, you will support activities in the CSEM Life Science Technologies area with a focus on biologically-informed deep learning and translatability between pre-clinical and clinical drug discovery research. This project aims to close the translation gap between animal models and human biology by developing an innovative biologically-informed neural network model. We are seeking a highly motivated Master’s student or recent Master’s graduate with a strong background in deep learning looking for an opportunity to work on real-world biological problems.

 

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an intern or a Master's thesis student for 6 months to support us in:

• Implementation, optimization of the training strategy, and validation of a biologically-informed variational auto-encoder for closing the translational gap between animal models and humans.
• Preparation of publicly available transcriptomic datasets for training the new model.

 

Your profile

Know-how

• Strong background in state-of-the-art deep learning methods and statistics
• Fluent in Python and experience in PyTorch
• Working with Docker and HPC systems is a plus
• Experience in analyzing transcriptomic data is a plus
• Strong English-speaking skills required, German and / or French-speaking skills a plus

 

Interpersonal skills

• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
